Regenerating London: Waltham Forest, E17

Located within the Blackhorse Lane Creative Enterprise Zone, the Lockwood Way Industrial Estate was already home to an eclectic mix of local businesses including craft breweries, a micro bakery, a vintage scooter specialist and a wine maker when the London Borough of Waltham Forest decided to invest in it as a means of attracting further businesses.

That investment was also intended to encourage those already there to diversify with ‘after hours’ offerings, thereby promoting greater mix-use of the area.

Enlisting the support of the team at We Made That, an ambitious vision was created for how the estate would be transformed into a vibrant and welcoming community.

Work involved the installation of attractive new frontages to the industrial units, signage for both the businesses themselves as well as across the wider estate, visually eye-catching artwork, footpath widening, fencing, comprehensive landscaping, and road resurfacing.

“We are delighted to have worked with We Made That and BRAC, alongside local businesses, to improve the area and build upon its heritage to support new industries finding their way and help local up-and-coming talents establish themselves.” Councillor Ahsan Khan, Waltham Forest Council

Appointment Alert! The Stratford Workshops

BRAC are delighted to announce that we have been appointed for a refurbishment of The Stratford Workshops on behalf of General Projects in East London.

Originally built in the 1800s, Stratford Workshops was a printing press for the Great Eastern Railway.  When the works were closed in the 60s, the building was converted into East London’s very first hub for start-ups and SMEs.

Today it is home to a radical assembly of creatives working in anything from fashion design to manufacturing, jewellery making to music production. Inspired by its past, but wholly designed for its future, we will celebrate its community and its character, while delivering a new lease of life to the building through enhanced communal areas, new co-working spaces and an inspiring new hotel-style reception.
